About Us
Newham Sustainable Schools Programme (NSS) has been running now for 8 years! Over those years we have hosted and facilitated a range of excellent events, supported each other in our sustainable journeys, and saved resources and money for our schools.
NSS began life as part of the National Sustainable Schools Programme, and was run centrally by the L.B. Newham Health Eduaction Advisory Team within Continuing Professional Development. After the 2010 election the national Sustainable Schools project was removed, and subsequent cuts to local council funding saw the end of LBN HEAT. However, a group of schools, advisers and LBN staff have carried on this work , knowing how important Eco-Schools and sustainable education are, and what great things we can achieve together.
NSS is now fully funded by Newham schools through the Headroom Fund. We have always been led by the needs of schools, pupils and staff, and now we are literally school-led! The programme is run by Jan Reed (previously Group Manager of the LBN HEAT team). She is guided and supported by the Newham EcoNetwork - a passionate, enthusiastic and knowledgable bunch of experts from schools, agencies and the local authority.
Please do contact Jan with ideas, concerns or requests... [email protected]
We look forward to working with you
